Romeo

In 2002 my husband and I went to the local SPCA in search of the perfect kitten or cat. After spending a lot of time there, I was petting this cute black kitten through a cage, and my husband was holding a different kitten saying how cute she was. He let his kitten down to walk around, and she ran right to the black cats cage and he stuck his arm out as if to comfort her. It melted my heart. Needless to say we came home with 2 cats that day. And that was the beginning of Romeo & Juliet.

Romeo was very sick the first year we had him, and had to have numerous tests and a biopsy on his paw. He was a trooper through it all, and didn't even flinch, or give the vet a hard time. It was like he knew we were trying to help him. The vet said it could be 1 of 3 things, and our only hope was that he would outgrow his condtion. Thankfully he did get better and lived a much happier, longer life. Romeo lived up to his name, and he was the kindest, gentlest, most patient cat I have ever known. When I broke my leg, he barely left my side. I called him my little black Egyptian cat. The thing I miss most about him is his snuggling at night or naptime. I would lift up my blanket for him and he would just crawl under and lie next to me, sometimes using my arm as his pillow. Sadly, last fall he was diagnosed with kidney disease and we had to send him to the rainbow bridge in Feb. 2015

Romeo and my other cats have spent many years watching us raise Monarch butterflies, so it is only fitting that I am tagging one and sending it off in memory of Romeo.
